Once upon a time there was a princess
who was locked in a tower from birth
and grew up to be very beautiful.
Perhaps, she thought, this would be bearable
if I were ugly.
But even with no basis for comparison
she knew she was perfect.
One day a handsome prince came to save her
and they rode off to his palace.
That night the couple attended a ball.
Though very good-looking, the princess lacked
the social skills to enjoy herself. She sat
in the corner and drank quite a lot
then she told the prince she felt ill
so they left the party early.
