Once upon a time there was an astronaut
who was very afraid of heights. While training
in scary simulations
he had to be so brave it almost did not
seem worthwhile. But he had told
too many people about his plans and
did not wish to disappoint them. After years
of dizziness the launch day finally arrived.
The crew sat in their shuttle and listened
to the countdown. Then the biggest roar in the world
hid the astronaut's screams, until the silence of space.
He suddenly found there was no up and
no down, and the heights of all the chairs
he was too afraid to stand on
could never add up to this.
